The city of Calafat was founded in the 14th century by colonists from Genoa, who employed a large number of people there to repair ships. They called themselves "caulkers". Hence the name of the city.

Calafat is connected to Bulgaria by a bridge (1 km), Serbia is about 100 km away.
Very good infrastructure as this is the main transit route from Western Europe to Turkey. OEM's like Ford (Craiova 90 km) or Dacia (Pitesti 200 km) are nearby. But also numerous Tier 1.
